Bogdan Baciu


Romanian baritone Bogdan Baciu makes his Royal Opera debut in the 2019/20 Season as Silvio (Pagliacci).

Baciu studied at the Gheorghe Dima Conservatory in Cluj Napoca. He joined the Opera Studio of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in the 2011–12 season and became a member of the ensemble of Deutsche Oper am Rhein in the 2012-13 season. His roles for Deutsche Oper am Rhein have included Papageno (Die Zauberflöte), Don Giovanni, Enrico Ashton (Lucia di Lammermoor), Belcore, Count Anckarström (Un ballo in maschera), Rodrigo Marquis of Posa (Don Carlo), Ford (Falstaff), Silvio, Sharpless (Madama Butterfly), Ping (Turandot), Mercutio (Roméo et Juliette), Escamillo (Carmen), Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Herald (Lohengrin) and Harlequin (Ariadne auf Naxos).

Baciu’s appearances away from Deutsche Oper am Rhein include Spirit Messenger (Die Frau ohne Schatten) and Herald (Lohengrin) for Hamburg State Opera, Eugene Onegin for Opéra national du Rhin, Valentin (Faust) for Vilnius City Opera, Dandini (La Cenerentola), Marcello (La bohème) and Escamillo for Stuttgart Opera, Marcello (La bohème) for Frankfurt Opera and Escamillo and Marcello for Semperoper Dresden. He has performed widely in concert around the world.
