Bert Dalhuysen


Lighting designer Bert Dalhuysen made his Royal Ballet debut in the 2013/14 Season on David Dawson's The Human Seasons.

Dawson was born in 1958 and studied at the Academy of Photography and Phototechnics in The Hague, graduating in 1978. He went on to freelance in photography and theatre lighting before becoming managing director of the Arinde Visual Design studios in Amsterdam, 1982. He joined the lighting department of Het Muziektheater, Amsterdam, 1986, and became deputy chief of the department, 2001. He is currently artistic supervisor and resident lighting designer for Dutch National Ballet.

In addition to his work for Dutch National Ballet Dalhuysen continues to work as a freelance lighting multimedia designer for ballet, opera and theatre. He collaborates frequently with David Dawson and Eno Henze.
