Biography

Brazilian tenor Atalla Ayan made his Royal Opera debut in June 2013 singing Ruggero (La rondine). In the 2013/14 Season he sings Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni) in Kasper Holten's new production, stepping in at short notice for an indisposed Antonio Poli.

Ayan was born in Belém and studied there and on the Lindemann Young Artist Development Program at the Metropolitan Opera, New York, and at the Teatro Comunale, Bologna. He made his professional debut in 2007 as Rinuccio (Gianni Schicchi) in Belém and his European debut in 2008 as Rodolfo (La bohème) in Athens. His appearances since have included a Metropolitan Opera gala concert in Central Park, Rodolfo for Glyndebourne on Tour, the Italian Tenor (Der Rosenkavalier) in Geneva and Dresden, Alfredo Germont (La traviata) in Genoa, and a European concert tour with Angela Gheorghiu.

Ayan became a member of Stuttgart Opera in spring 2012. His roles there have included Don Ottavio, Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Ismaele (Nabucco), Alfredo and Fenton (Falstaff).
