English mezzo-soprano Andrea Hazell is a member of the Royal Opera Chorus, which she joined in 1990. Her many solo roles with The Royal Opera have included Catholic Lady (Les Huguenots), Venetian (Death in Venice), Serving Maid (Die Frau ohne Schatten), Tefka (Jenůfa), Noble Orphan (Der Rosenkavalier), Slave (Salome), Bridesmaid (Le nozze di Figaro), Page (Lohengrin), Trainbearer (Elektra), Apparition (Macbeth), Elf (Die ägyptische Helena), Page (Rigoletto), Maid (Simon Boccanegra), Meat Rack Girl (Anna Nicole, world premiere) and Spirit (Cendrillon). She has sung in Mr Worldly Wise for The Royal Ballet.
Hazell was born in Southampton and studied at the Royal Academy of Music. She sang with British Youth Opera and Classical Productions before joining the Royal Opera Chorus. Her roles with other companies include Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro), Shepherd Boy (Tosca), Hänsel, and, for the Covent Garden Festival, Eliza Doolittle (My Fair Lady).
Hazell’s television credits include ‘Songs of Praise’ and Mary Magdalene (The People’s Passion) with Jessye Norman on the BBC. She has appeared at the Greenbelt and Warwick festivals performing Bachianas brasileiras with the cellos of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
