In the 2013/14 Season Dutch choreographer André de Jong makes his Royal Opera debut creating the choreography for Stefan Herheim's production of Les Vêpres siciliennes.
De Jong studied dance at the CoDarts Academy and as a dancer has appeared in the musicals The Wild Party, TiTaTovenaar, Crazy for You, Saturday Night Fever, Peter Pan, 42nd Street, Oliver! (on which he was also assistant choreographer) and Anatevka, and for companies including the Compagnie Philippe Saire in Lausanne and for Ginette Laurin in Montréal. He has created the choreography for several musicals for Fontys Academy of Music, including The Wild Party, RENT, City of Angels, Tick, tick, boom, The Secret Garden, The Ghost Train and 42nd and Desperate Street. His opera choreography credits include Don Giovanni, Die lustige Witwe, Le Roi David and the ‘first Dutch opera’, Carolus Hacquart’s De triomferende Min, for various Dutch opera companies. He worked with Stefan Herheim on his production of Eugene Onegin (Netherlands Opera).
De Jong's other credits include choreographing the 1997 World Press Photo Gala. He teaches jazz, modern dance and yoga at the Fontys Academy of Music.
