Dutch choreographer André de Jong made his Royal Opera debut in 2013, creating the choreography for Les Vêpres siciliennes, directed by Stefan Herheim.
De Jong studied dance at the Codarts Academy and as a dancer has appeared in musicals including The Wild Party, TiTaTovenaar, Crazy for You, Saturday Night Fever, Peter Pan, 42nd Street, Oliver! (on which he was also assistant choreographer) and Anatevka, and for companies including the Compagnie Philippe Saire in Lausanne and for Ginette Laurin in Montréal. He has choreographed several musicals for Fontys Academy of Music, including The Wild Party, RENT, City of Angels, Tick, tick, boom, The Secret Garden, The Ghost Train and 42nd and Desperate Street. His opera choreography credits include Don Giovanni, Die lustige Witwe, Le Roi David and Hacquart’s De triomferende Min, for various Dutch opera companies. Previous collaborations with Herheim include Eugene Onegin for Netherlands Opera.
De Jong’s other credits include choreographing the 1997 World Press Photo Gala. He teaches jazz, modern dance and yoga at the Fontys Academy of Music.
