Anaïk Morel



French mezzo-soprano Anaïk Morel makes her Royal Opera debut in the 2018/19 Season in the title role of Carmen.

Morel trained at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lyon and at the Opera Studio of Bavarian State Opera. She has won various awards including Fourth Prize at the Concours Reine Elisabeth in Brussels in 2011. She was a member of the Ensemble of Bavarian State Opera 2008–10. Her more recent appearances include Carmen for Stuttgart Opera, Zürich Opera and Opéra national de Montpellier, Composer (Ariadne auf Naxos) for Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse, Mère Marie (Dialogues des Carmélites) for Opéra de Lyon and in Bari, Preziosilla (La forza del destino) for Theater Basel, Fenena (Nabucco) for Bavarian State Opera, Siébel (Faust) for Paris Opéra, Marguerite (La Damnation de Faust) for the State Operas of Stuttgart and Saarbrücken, Dido (Dido and Aeneas) for Aix-en-Provence Festival, Charlotte (Werther) and Sesto (La clemenza di Tito) for Klagenfurt Theatre, and Charlotte for Opéra national du Rhin and Zürich Opera. She created Paulinka Bimbam in the world premiere of Marc-André Dabalvie’s Charlotte Salomon for Salzburg Festival.

In concert Morel has sung with orchestras including the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, the Orchestre de Picardie, the Orchestre symphonique et lyrique de Nancy, the Orchestra of Angers Nantes Opéra, the Orchestre national de Lyon, Les Musiciens du Louvre, the Brussels Philharmonic and Musique des Lumières. Her recordings include songs by Charles Koechlin (Timpani Records, 2015).
