Amir Hosseinpour



Iranian choreographer and director Amir Hosseinpour made his Royal Opera debut in 1997 as co-director and choreographer for Il barbiere di Siviglia and has since returned to choreograph The Exterminating Angel.

Hosseinpour founded the Amir Hosseinpour Dance Company in 1992, productions including Fantaisie Nocturne (Turtle Key Arts) and Is That All There Is? (Almeida Theatre, La MaMa, New York). Choreography credits include Spuren der Verirrten (Landestheater Linz, world premiere), William Tell (Welsh National Opera, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Polish National Opera), Les Troyens, La Juive, Castor et Pollux, Tannhäuser, Götterdämmerung, Knaifel’s Alice in Wonderland and Alceste (Dutch National Opera), María de Buenos Aires (Teatro Nacional de São Carlos), La Juive, L’Enfant et les sortilèges and Der Zwerg (Paris Opéra), Zoroastre (Opéra Comique, Drottningholm), Giulio Cesare and The Midsummer Marriage (Bavarian State Opera), Les Troyens (La Scala, Milan), Der fliegende Holländer (Lille Opera), Der goldene Hahn (Bregenz Festival), Dialogues des Carmélites (Strasbourg), L’incoronazione di Poppea (Basel), Petrushka (Bavarian State Ballet) and Cinderella and Platée in collaboration with Jonathan Lunn (Landestheater Niederbayern). Television work includes Classic Widows (South Bank Show), Trouble in Tahiti (BBC) and La Poussière d’amour (Arte).

Hosseinpour’s director credits include La traviata (Landestheater Niederbayern), Hôtel de Pékin (Nationale Reisopera), Platée (Dutch National Opera), The Soldier’s Tale (Barcelona Festival), L’italiana in Algeri (Berlin State Opera), L’Enfant et les sortilèges (Opera North), Rinaldo (Montpellier Opera, Berlin State Opera, Innsbruck), Orlando paladino and Der geduldige Sokrates (Innsbruck, Berlin), Orphée et Eurydice (Bavarian State Opera) and Les Paladins (Theater Basel). He is on the Turtle Key Arts advisory council.
