French opera conductor Sonia Ben-Santamaria is a Link Artist on the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme during the 2017/18 Season. Her responsibilities will include preparing the children’s chorus for Carmen.
Ben-Santamaria trained at the Conservatoire National de Toulouse, the Royal Academy of Music, the National Opera Studio and at English National Opera. She has won awards including the Leonard Hancock Memorial Trust Prize, the Musicians’ Benevolent Fund Award for Répétiteurs and the Major Van Someren-Godfrey Memorial Prize for Accompaniment in English Song. As a répétiteur she has worked for the Royal Opera House, Welsh National Opera, Opera Holland Park, Wexford Festival Opera, Opéra de Baugé and the National Opera Studio. She was backstage conductor for Tosca at ENO in 2012, Assistant Conductor for Sukanya with The Royal Opera and Curve Leicester, 2017, and Chorus Master for Nabucco for Chelsea Opera Group in 2017.
Conducting work includes Don Giovanni (HeadFirst Productions), To Himself, Alone (Tête à Tête Opera Festival), Die Fledermaus and Macbeth (Opera Integra), Carmen (Matchbox Opera) and Die Zauberflöte (Chelmsford City Opera).
