Romanian-born British soprano Simona Mihai sings Frasquita (Carmen), Poussette (Manon) and Musetta (La bohème) for The Royal Opera in the 2013/14 Season. Mihai was a Jette Parker Young Artist for The Royal Opera 2008–10, singing roles including Dew Fairy (Hansel and Gretel), Belinda (Dido and Aeneas) and Poussette.

Born in Bucharest, Mihai came to the UK to study at the Royal College of Music, where she attended the prestigious Benjamin Britten International Opera School. She returned to the Royal College as a Rosemary Budgen Junior Fellow and as a David Bowerman Junior Fellow. Mihai also studied at the European Opera Centre. Her operatic appearances away from the Royal Opera House have included Despina (Così fan tutte) for Glyndebourne on Tour, Adina (L’elisir d’amore) for Salzburg Landestheater, Servilia (La clemenza di Tito) for Aix-en-Provence Festival and Second Niece (Peter Grimes) and Poussette for La Scala, Milan.

In addition to her opera work, Mihai performs throughout the UK and in Europe in concert and recital.
