German dramaturg Ronny Dietrich makes her Royal Opera debut in the 2013/14 Season as the dramaturg in Claus Guth's production of Die Frau ohne Schatten.
Dietrich was born in Frankfurt and learnt several instruments before studying musicology at Frankfurt University. She has worked as a dramaturg since 1981, initially for concert performances with Frankfurt Alte Opera (1981–5) and at the Vienna Konzerthaus (1985–90), and then as an opera dramaturg in Kiel (1990–93) and as chief dramaturg at Zürich Opera (1993–2012). Since summer 2012 she has worked as Head of Dramaturgy and Publications for the Salzburg Festival.
Dietrich works regularly with directors including Sven-Eric Bechtolf, Jürgen Flimm, Claus Guth (including for productions at the Theater an der Wien, Salzburg Festival, Liceu, Barcelona and La Scala, Milan), Alvis Hermanis and Jens-Daniel Herzog.
