English pianist Philip Cornfield is on the music staff of The Royal Ballet. In addition to playing in rehearsals for the Company he regularly gives solo piano performances in Royal Ballet productions.
Cornfield was born in Leicestershire and began playing the piano at the age of eight. After studying at the Royal College of Music with Patricia Carroll he joined the music staff of The Royal Ballet School and in 1993 moved to The Royal Ballet.
His solo performances for the Company include A Shropshire Lad, Monotones, Les Noces, Mayerling, Spring Rites, Sensorium and Fantasy (‘Inspired by Ashton’, Linbury Studio Theatre). He has also accompanied Royal Ballet Principals at the Harrogate International Festival and at the Adeline Genée Awards at Sadler’s Wells.
