Austrian tenor Paul Schweinester made his Royal Opera debut in 2014 as Brighella (Ariadne auf Naxos).

Schweinester was born and raised in Innsbruck, where he sang as a boy treble with the Wiltener Sängerknaben. He studied with Karlheinz Hanser in Vienna, at the Conservatorio di Musica Santa Cecilia in Rome and on the 2012 Young Singers Project at the Salzburg Festival. He was a member of Vienna Volksoper 2009–13, where his roles included Beppe (Pagliacci) and Vašek (The Bartered Bride). Engagements elsewhere include Pedrillo (Die Entführung aus dem Serail) for Paris Opéra and Bremen Music Festival, Herr Pouf (Der Schauspieldirektor) for Bregenz Festival, Don Basilio (Le nozze di Figaro) for Salzburg Festival, Die Jahreszeiten for Haydn Festival Eisenstadt, Young Officer (Die Soldaten) for La Scala, Milan, and Toni Reischmann (Elegy for Young Lovers) for Theater an der Wien.

Schweinester is also a keen concert singer, and makes regular appearances in Germany and Austria. His recordings include Die Entführung aus dem Serail for Deutsche Grammophon and Bach’s Christmas Oratorio.
