Italian soprano Patrizia Ciofi sings Marie (La Fille du régiment) for The Royal Opera in the 2013/14 Season, reprising the role from the 2011/12 Season. Ciofi has also sung Isabelle (Robert le diable), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) and Gilda (Rigoletto) for the Company.

Ciofi was born in Casole d'Elsa, Siena. She took part in her first singing competition aged three, and later conducted her village choir. She went on to study singing at the Istituto Superiore di Studi Musicali Pietro Mascagni in Livorno, and made her professional debut in 1989 at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale, Florence, in Gino Negri’s Giovanni Sebastiano. She has since appeared in major opera houses around the world including La Scala, Milan, Paris Opéra, Lyric Opera of Chicago and Vienna State Opera. Her wide repertory includes 19th-century Italian roles such as Violetta (La traviata), Amenaide (Tancredi), Amina (La sonnambula), Lucia di Lammermoor and Maria Stuarda; French roles such as Massenet’s Manon, Léïla (Les Pêcheurs de perles), the four heroines (Les Contes d’Hoffmann) and Juliette (Roméo et Juliette); and Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier).

Ciofi has featured on numerous recordings, including Le nozze di Figaro conducted by René Jacobs, which won the 2005 Grammy Award for Best Opera Recording.
