Italian soprano Patrizia Ciofi made her Royal Opera debut in 2002 as Gilda (Rigoletto). She has since sung Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Marie (La Fille du régiment) and Isabelle (Robert le diable) for the Company.

Ciofi was born in Casole d'Elsa, Siena. She took part in her first singing competition aged three and as a child conducted her village choir. She went on to study singing at the Istituto Superiore di Studi Musicali Pietro Mascagni in Livorno, and made her professional debut in 1989 at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale, Florence, in Gino Negri’s Giovanni Sebastiano. She has since appeared in major opera houses around the world, including La Scala, Milan, Paris Opéra, Lyric Opera of Chicago and Vienna State Opera. Her wide repertory includes Violetta (La traviata), Amenaide (Tancredi), Amina (La sonnambula), Lucia di Lammermoor, Maria Stuarda, Massenet’s Manon, Léïla (Les Pêcheurs de perles), the four heroines (Les Contes d’Hoffmann), Juliette (Roméo et Juliette) and Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier).

Ciofi has featured on numerous recordings, including Le nozze di Figaro conducted by René Jacobs, winner of the 2005 Grammy Award for Best Opera Recording.
