Biography

Israeli director Noa Naamat joins the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme from the start of the 2017/18 Season. In the 2017/18 Season she directs the Jette Parker Young Artists Summer Performance and assists the directors of La Tragédie de Carmen (Wilton’s Music Hall), Cavalleria rusticana/Pagliacci, Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria (Roundhouse), Tosca and Lessons in Love and Violence.

Naamat studied Theatre Practice at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and History of Opera and Italian Studies at the Accademia Europea di Firenze, and holds an MA in Directing from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. She has worked on theatre and opera productions across Israel, Germany, Italy, Austria, the UK and Ireland. Directorial credits include Don Pasquale, L’elisir d’amore and Don Giovanni for Arezzo Opera Festival, La Voix humaine for Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar and Salieri’s Prima la musica e poi le parole at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. In addition, she has staged numerous opera scenes and galas for festivals in Arezzo and Lucca.

Naamat has worked as an assistant director for companies including Vienna State Opera, Scottish Opera, Israeli Opera, Deutsches Nationaltheater und Staatskapelle Weimar and Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. She was the apprentice director at Lyric Opera Studio Weimar and at Oberlin’s Summer Opera Program in Italy. She was the recipient of the Accademia Europea dell’Opera Assistant Director Fellowship and held a stage director residency at Shakespeare’s Globe, where she directed scenes from The Merchant of Venice on the Globe stage.
