Maltese tenor Nico Darmanin made his Royal Opera professional debut in the 2013/14 Season as Danieli (Les Vêpres siciliennes) and Apparition of Youth (Die Frau ohne Schatten). Darmanin also sang with The Royal Opera as a student, as part of the chorus of Savoyards in the 2009 concert performances of Linda di Chamonix. He has also sung in masterclass with Joyce DiDonato in the Linbury Studio Theatre as part of the Royal Opera House's Insight Programme.
Darmanin grew up in Malta and studied law there, before moving to London to study with Rosa Mannion at the Royal College of Music. He has also worked in masterclasses and courses with Thomas Allen and Kiri Te Kanawa, and participated in Mirella Freni’s masterclass series in Modena. He was a member of the National Opera Studio 2012–13.
Since leaving the National Opera Studio Darmanin's operatic engagements have included Don Ramiro (La Cenerentola) for Bury Court Opera, Fenton (Falstaff) for Opera Berbiguieres and Ferrando (Così fan tutte) at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, in addition to concert performances in Malta.
