Scottish mezzo-soprano Elizabeth Sikora began her professional career as a member of the Royal Opera Chorus. Since leaving the Chorus, her many solo roles for The Royal Opera have included Third Lady (Die Zauberflöte), Giovanna (Rigoletto), Annina (La traviata), Maddalena (Linda di Chamounix in concert), Teresa (La sonnambula), Spirit of Antonia’s Mother (Les Contes d’Hoffmann), Rossweisse (Die Walküre), Filipyevna (Eugene Onegin), Innkeeper’s Wife (The Cunning Little Vixen), Mistress of the Novices (Suor Angelica), Dubious Old Lady (The Gambler), Third Maid (Elektra) and Mère Jeanne (Dialogues des Carmélites). Sikora also has a long association with The Royal Ballet, singing for such ballets as Mayerling and Les Noces.
Sikora’s engagements elsewhere include Prole Woman (1984) for La Scala, Milan, Mrs Sedley (Peter Grimes) for Grand Théâtre de Genève, Spirit of Antonia’s Mother for Nationale Reisopera, Marcellina (Le nozze di Figaro) for the Cascais Festival, Portugal, Susanna (Khovanshchina) for English National Opera, Florence Pike (Albert Herring) for Opera North, Swiss grandmother (The Death of Klinghoffer) for Scottish Opera, Filipyevna for Opera Holland Park, Wife (The Lion’s Face) for The Opera Group and many roles for Chelsea Opera Group, including Madame de la Haltière (Cendrillon). She has also sung Mahler’s Rückert Lieder (Resolution) for English National Ballet.
Sikora performs widely in concert and has sung with London Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and at the Concertgebouw. Her recordings include DVDs of Rigoletto and Il trittico with The Royal Opera and of Mayerling and Les Noces with The Royal Ballet.
