Doug Jones

Biography

In the 2013/14 Season American tenor Doug Jones sings Pang in Turandot and Young Servant in Elektra with The Royal Opera. He made his Royal Opera debut in 2003 as Tobias Rigg in Neil Armfield's production of Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd.

Jones grew up in Missouri and studied at Southern Methodist University, Dallas, and Eastman School of Music, New York. His wide and varied repertory spans from Monteverdi to Birtwistle, and includes such character tenor roles as Monostatos (Die Zauberflöte), Beppe (Pagliacci), both Pong and Pang (Turandot), Goro (Madama Butterfly), Spoletta (Tosca), Dr Caius and Bardolph (Falstaff), Harlekin (Der Kaiser von Atlantis), Shabby Peasant (Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk) and Piet the Pot (Le Grand Macabre), as well as Kudrjáš (Kát'a Kabanová).

He regularly performs with Seattle Opera. Elsewhere in the USA he has sung with the opera companies of San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Dallas, Colorado and Baltimore, among others. International appearances include performances for Opéra-Bastille, Liceu, Barcelona, Frankfurt Opera, Vienna State Opera and Israeli Opera.
