Canadian director Daniel Dooner is a Staff Director at the Royal Opera House. He has directed a large number of revivals for The Royal Opera, including Fidelio, Un ballo in maschera, L’elisir d’amore, Rigoletto, Così fan tutte, La traviata, Simon Boccanegra (1881 version) and Don Pasquale.
Dooner was born in Ottawa and studied English and drama at the universities of Toronto and London. He has worked extensively in Britain and Europe, with engagements including directing revivals of Owen Wingrave, Kát’a Kabanová, The Makropulos Case, Tristan und Isolde and Jenůfa at Glyndebourne Festival, Parsifal at English National Opera, Lohengrin at La Scala, Milan, Die Zauberflöte at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma and Elektra at the Salzburg Festival.
Further engagements have included Jenůfa with Israeli Opera and Così fan tutte with the Canadian Opera Company.
