American dancer Beatriz Stix-Brunell becomes a First Soloist of The Royal Ballet from the start of the 2016/17 Season. She joined the Company as an Artist in 2010 and was promoted to Soloist in 2012. She made her Principal debut while still an Artist, dancing the title role in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland in 2010.

Stix-Brunell grew up in New York City and began her training aged seven at the School of American Ballet. Aged 12 she joined the Paris Opéra Ballet School and on returning to New York learnt privately with Fabrice Herrault. Aged 14 she was invited by Christopher Wheeldon to join his company Morphoses; performances with Morphoses included Polyhymnia’s variation (Apollo) and roles in Wheeldon’s There Where She Loved, Fool’s Paradise and Polyphonia. She also created roles in Commedia and a Wheeldon/Martha Wainwright collaboration.

Stix-Brunell’s repertory with The Royal Ballet includes Alice, Princess Rose (The Prince of the Pagodas), Perdita (The Winter’s Tale), Raven Girl, the Young Girl (The Two Pigeons), Olga (Onegin), Youngest Sister (Las hermanas) and Lilac Fairy, Fairy of the Enchanted Garden and Florestan’s Sister (The Sleeping Beauty), and roles in Ceremony of Innocence, In the Night, Manon, DGV: Danse à grande vitesse, Polyphonia, Requiem, Ballo della regina, La Sylphide and Within the Golden Hour. She created the role of Young Shepherdess (The Winter’s Tale) and roles in ‘Trespass’ (Metamorphosis: Titian 2012), Untouchable and Woolf Works. Award nominations include Outstanding Female Performance (Classical) at the 2012 Critics’ Circle National Dance Awards.
