American soprano Ailyn Pérez made her Royal Opera debut on the Company’s 2011 Japan tour as Violetta Valéry (La traviata). She has since returned to sing Violetta, Liù (Turandot) and the title role in Manon.

Pérez was born in Chicago to Mexican-American parents and studied at Indiana University, on San Francisco Opera’s Merola Opera Program and at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia. She has sung Violetta for companies including Deutsche Oper Berlin, Bavarian State Opera, Hamburg State Opera and Vienna State Opera. Other engagements include Amelia Grimaldi (Simon Boccanegra) in Zürich, Marguerite (Faust) in Hamburg and Santa Fe, Mimì (La bohème) for the Metropolitan Opera, New York, the Bolshoi and in Los Angeles, Juliette (Roméo et Juliette) in Philadelphia, Adina (L’elisir d’amore) for Vienna State Opera, Countess Almaviva (La nozze di Figaro) in Hamburg and Alice Ford (Falstaff) for Glyndebourne Festival.

Pérez regularly appears in recital in London and the USA. Her discography includes a CD of love duets with Stephen Costello.
