The winners of the National Dance Awards 2017 have been announced, with Royal Ballet dancers winning in two categories.

Former Principal dancer Zenaida Yanowsky won Best Female Dancer in recognition of her 23 years with The Royal Ballet. Zenaida retired from the Company last year but will return to dance in Elizabeth at the Barbican in May 2018.

Also recognized was First Soloist Marcelino Sambé who won the award for Outstanding Classical Performance, Male in recognition of his portrayal of Colas in The Royal Ballet’s production of La Fille mal gardée. He will make his role debut as Lescaut in Manon in April.

Other winners this year included Liam Riddick (Best Male Dancer), the musical 42nd Street (Outstanding Company) and Akram Khan's Giselle (Best Classical Choreography).

Congratulations to Marcelino and Zenaida on winning their respective categories! Thank you for posting the news Chris and I hope there will be some more fb you tube posts of RB dancers in rehearsals soon. It is so wonderful to learn small details about the ballets and get a glimpse of the dancers at work and their personalities - for me in Korea it is the only chance I get to know more about them and the RB.

Marcelino Sambé has a rare sensibility that makes his performances not only amazing from the technical point of view, but also from the emotions he is able to express.
His jumps, turns and arabesques are perfect, from the technical point of view. He really deserved to be Principal by now.

Yes,yes, yes, make Sambe a Principal. A great dancer— in the tradition of Nureyev and Acosta. This honour was richly deserved.
