Amazing tender and moving performances by Steven and Evgenia - a real treat to watch the chemistry between them and a fabulous production in every way. Congratulations to all.

'For starters, it’s almost beyond crediting that the same orchestra currently making such a deplorable dog’s breakfast of Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet for the Royal Ballet is the same band playing with such exemplary control and unity of purpose for the Berg opera' .One critics published response to recent performances.
How can this be allowed to happen. What responsibility does the RB's Music Director have in this?

Watched Rupert Pennefather and Sarah Lamb last night - wonderful performance, they were so confident in their partnership yet seemed young and quite innocent in their interpretation of their roles.
How great to see an English dancer in a leading role with the Royal Ballet and one with so much musicality and strength.

After my comments on the 1st of this month I attended the matinee on the 16th. I should record that the Orchestra playing was committed and especially the brass excelled themselves. So congrats to them and to Sergey Levitin and Barry Wordsworth

  5. Sarah Lamb and Rupert Pennefather-a breathtaking performance and the cast and orchestra made an unforgettable night. Thank you

  6. Much has been said about the Juliet performances and after Tuesday's matinee, the name of Roberta Marquez should added to this list. She was absolutely stunning. There were tears all around at the end. A most wonderful final scene from Miss Marquez

  7. I agree, Marquez is wonderful and particularly so in MacMillan. A very fine performance.

Natalia's performance was glorious Dec 7. She is refining and enhancing her role as Juliet. She is not just technique, she dances emotion and melts into Romeo during lifts. I loved the ROH performance even more than when we saw it performed at ABT in NYC - and we loved that performance! And Carlos can still project the joy and exhuberance of the young Romeo! I cried!

  8. Where are the reactions to Osipova's miraculous Juliet?!

    • Chris responded on 29 November 2013 at 5:21pm

That was one of the best performances I have ever seen... of any ballet. I saw Romeo&Juliet last year and thought it was quite a boring ballet. I decided to see it again only because Osipova was dancing. It was like watching a completely different ballet. She is out of this world!

Thiago and Marianela last Friday were absolutely sublime - I've seen R & J many times, but this was the best

Marianela and Thiago were superb. I've seen them many times and they grow further into their roles with each iteration. The chemistry between them on Thursday evening was electric and they are a perfectly matched couple. A complete delight.

We saw Natalia & Carlos on November 21st. Natalia was simply stunning as always. She has a unique ability to convey every emotion not only through the perfection of her dance but also her facial expressions and demeanour. Carlos was excellent but can't help thinking that there might have been more chemistry with Ivan Vasiliev ? (sorry Carlos !) Looking forward to seeing them both again in Giselle on Jan 18th !

The last performance of Romeo and Juliet with Natalia and Carlos on Saturday night was outstanding! I was blown away what passion and joy of dance thank you Royal Ballet Company for a night to remember!
