Kenneth MacMillan’s dark and majestic Mayerling is one of the choreographer’s masterpieces, with grimly intense pas de deux, intoxicating crowd scenes and a taste of the opulent splendour of the Austro-Hungarian empire set to a decadent score by Franz Lizst.

The ballet is based on the true story of the downfall of Crown Prince Rudolf and its cast includes key figures of the Austro-Hungarian Royal Family, as well as friends, lovers and servants. To help unravel the at times complicated relationships between the characters, we’ve created a family tree in partnership with The Ballet Bag:

Mayerling runs until 15 June 2013. Tickets are still available.
The production is staged with generous philanthropic support from Celia Blakey, Lady Ashcroft, John and Susan Burns and Gail and Gerald Ronson through the Gerald Ronson Foundation.
