Welsh National Opera has announced its new 2015/16 season, including a world premiere of In Parenthesis (An Artist’s Vision of the Somme) to be performed at the ROH as part of their summer residency.

Based on a poem by World War I poet David Jones, In Parenthesis is composed by Iain Bell with a libretto by David Antrobus and Emma Jenkins. The production will be directed by David Pountney with ensemble cast including: Alek Shrader, Peter Coleman-Wright, Graham Clark, Donald Maxwell, and Alexandra Deshorties.

Part of WNO’s 70th birthday celebrations, this new commission will also coincide with the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the Battle of the Somme. The piece will be performed at Covent Garden on 1 July 2016.

Next summer The Royal Opera and WNO will continue their collaboration with Richard Ayres and Lavinia Greenlaw's new family opera Peter Pan, adapted from J.M. Barrie's much-loved fairytale. The companies staged Moses und Aron at Covent Garden in July 2014.

Further details of WNO’s 2015/16 season can be found at www.wno.org.uk. The Royal Opera will announce its 2015/16 Season in the spring.
