Richard Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos opens on 25 June in an award-winning production by Christof Loy.

Antonio Pappano conducts a cast that includes Karita Mattila, Roberto Saccà and Thomas Allen.

The production celebrates the 150th anniversary of Strauss’s birth. An extraordinary combination of musical styles, with a kaleidoscopic plot that combines light-hearted entertainment and high-minded art, the opera is a fitting showcase of Strauss’s creative genius.

We are also running a weekly A-Z of Richard Strauss blog series.

Ariadne auf Naxos runs from 25 June - 13 July 2014. Tickets are still available.

The production is staged thanks to generous philanthropic support from Hélène and Jean Peters, Hamish and Sophie Forsyth and The Maestro’s Circle
