The Royal Opera’s heartwarming production of Hansel and Gretel and The Royal Ballet’s classic staging of The Nutcracker are to be released in a special Christmas Celebration box set.

Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier’s colourful production of Hansel and Gretel features an all-star cast, with outstanding performances from Angelika Kirchschlager as Hansel, Diana Damrau as Gretel, Anja Silja as the Witch and Thomas Allen as Peter (who featured in our World Stage series).

Peter Wright’s sparkling staging of The Nutcracker has been a favourite of The Royal Ballet's repertory for over 25 years. Set to an unforgettable score by Tchaikovsky, the children's favourite follows the adventure of Clara as she travels through the magical Land of Sweets, meeting a mysterious magician, enchanted toy soldiers and dancing snowflakes among other enchanting characters.

The DVD recording features acclaimed performances from Royal Ballet First Soloist Steven McRae and Principal Guest Artist Miyako Yoshida dancing the roles of the Prince and the Sugar Plum Fairy.

The Christmas Celebration box set will be released on 3 September and will be available from the Royal Opera House Shop from Friday 17 September. More information about both releases is available from Opus Arte.

Isn't the DVD with Steven McRae, or it is with Federico Bonelli as prince?
