Twitter Q&A: John Tomlinson

On Wednesday 19 December, bass opera singer John Tomlinson will be joining us for a live Q&A on Twitter at 6pm.
What we’ll be asking him is up to you, so send us your questions via the comments area below or on Twitter using the hashtag #AskSirJohn. You might want to ask him about his favourite role in over 35 years of singing with The Royal Opera, or his thoughts on contemporary opera such as The Minotaur.
John is singing the role of The Minotaur in January 2013, a role that was created specially for him by composer Harrison Birtwistle. The Minotaur‘s Sitzprobe, with John performing, will be featured as part of Royal Opera Live – a day of live streaming from Covent Garden on 7 January. He is also acclaimed for his Wagnerian roles, most recently performing as Hagen in Keith Warner’s production of Wagner’s Ring Cycle.

What would you like to ask John Tomlinson?
When I saw Simon Boccanegra in 2010 at ROH, Ferruccio Furlanetto (Fiesco) was indisposed. He acted the role and you sang the role from the side of the stage. Personally I thought it worked wonderfully but what the specific challenges for this type of performance?
In a world mad with Health & Safety how satisfying was it to fling Hunding's axe into his dining table? :-)
What would your tips be for a singer (alto) to use their whole range please? Many thanks
