Ahead of The Royal Ballet’s first US performance this Season, Washington-born Eric Underwood has been re-visiting some of his old haunts, including his former school.

The Royal Ballet Soloist, who joined the Company in 2006,  began his dance training at Suitland High School Center for Visual and Performing Arts.

‘I have such fond memories of the experiences I had at the school, and of my ballet teacher Barbara Marks’, says Eric. ‘Barbara was a wonderful teacher. She took a chance on me and completely invested in my career. It was incredibly nostalgic going back.’

During his visit, Eric joined a dance class to give the students corrections and advice, before answering their questions.

‘For me it was a very humbling experience’, he says. ‘The kids were so receptive, warm and sincere. They were also really curious, and asked lots of technical questions about dancing.’

Tonight, Eric will perform in the US premiere of Carlos Acosta's Don Quixote at The Kennedy Center. Following performances at The Kennedy Center, the Company will travel to Chicago and New York.
