Professional and non-professional singers are taking over London’s Covent Garden Piazza on Sunday 4 September as part of Out Loud, a day of live, interactive performances.

Visitors to the West Piazza will be able to experience the magic of the opera with an interactive ‘Big Sing’, where they will have the chance to perform with members of the Royal Opera Chorus.

Maltese tenor Joseph Calleja, who is singing the role of Pollione in Bellini’s Norma at the start of the 2016/17 Season, will also be performing, alongside Australian mezzo-soprano Emily Edmonds, Irish soprano Jennifer Davis, British bass David Shipley who are members of the Royal Opera’s Jette Parker Young Artists Programme.

Audience members will be able to get up-close and personal with the singers in a ‘Make a Scene’ workshop, where they will be directed to form a chorus around a professional soloist.

Throughout the day, Out Loud will showcase the talents of singers, aged 9-94, from around the country, including the Royal Opera Chorus, the Royal Opera House Youth Opera Company, Royal Opera House Thurrock Community Chorus, All Together Opera Company, Garsington Youth Opera Company and Glyndebourne Youth Opera.

The Out Loud events of September 4th look marvellous.

I can't attend this, but where should I sign up for news of future such events, particularly joining in?!

    Thank-you.

      Hi Jilly,

We don't have a mailing list in place for events like this at the moment. But we always announce participation events and projects on the news section of our website and on our social media channels, so do make sure to follow us on Twitter.
      Hope that helps!

I was wondering, are there any pictures of the event? I would love to see if I'm in one of them. I saw a professional photographer there, and I thought there may be a chance she worked with you. Thanks so much!

      Hi Lenin,

Yes, we do have photos which we will share on our Flickr account and add to this page in due course!

      Thanks,

      Mel

      Hi Nick,

Sunday 4th September 2016, I'm afraid. This blog was published last year.

Watch this space for further announcements of similar events this year.
