Opera Awards 2014 nominees announced

A number of Royal Opera productions and artists recognized, including Les Vêpres siciliennes, Bryn Terfel and Written on Skin.

The nominations for this year's Opera Awards have been announced, with the shortlist featuring a number of Royal Opera artists and productions.

Diana Damrau, Christine Goerke, Anja Harteros, Adrianne Pieczonka and Krassimira Stoyanova are among those nominated in the Best Female Singer category.

Bryan Hymel, Luca Pisaroni and Michael Volle are among those nominated as Best Male Singer.

Richard Jones's production of Gloriana and Stefan Herheim's production of Les Vêpres siciliennes have been nominated for Best Anniversary production. The latter is also nominated in the Best New Production category.

Andris Nelsons and Mark Elder are nominated in the Best Conductor category. Andris conducted Elektra earlier this Season, while Mark recently conducted Wozzeck and La bohème.

The Royal Opera is nominated in the Best Opera Company category.

The recording of George Benjamin's Written on Skin, which had its UK premiere at the Royal Opera House in 2013, is nominated for Best CD of a Complete Opera.

Paul Brown is nominated in the Best Designer category. Paul will return to The Royal Opera for Jonathan Kent's production of Puccini's Manon Lescaut later this Season.

Alan and Jette Parker, who support The Royal Opera's Jette Parker Young Artist Programme are nominated in the Philanthropy/Sponsor category.

Piotr Beczala, Joseph Calleja, Joyce DiDonato, Renée Fleming, Juan Diego Flórez, Anna Netrebko and Bryn Terfel are nominated for the Readers' award. All have recently sung, or are due to sing at the Royal Opera House in the near future.

Other high-profile nominees include Aix-en-Provence for Best Festival, the Welsh National Opera Chorus in the Best Chorus category and ENO's Wozzeck in the Best New Production category.
