Marcelo Gomes to dance role of Oberon in The Dream on 9 February

American Ballet Theater dancer to perform as guest artist.

Marcelo Gomes will perform in the role of Oberon in The Dream on 9 February as a guest artist opposite Royal Ballet Principal Alina Cojocaru. The change follows the resignation of Sergei Polunin.

The Brazilian dances with American Ballet Theater, which he joined in 1997 before rising to the rank of Principal in 2002.

Steven McRae will dance the role in all other performances remaining.

    Good for him but I cannot beleive a repacement cannot be found from within the Company!

      Thanks for your comment. There is nothing unusual about asking Marcelo Gomes to come in as a guest - dancers from different companies often join the Royal Ballet for a number of shows. Evgenia Obraztsova recently came and did a number of Sleeping Beauties.

  4. I`ve seen videos of Evgenia Obraztsove and think she is so beautyful,she should only come to the West to join the Royal Ballet and/or American Ballet Theathter,she would be a wonderful asset to the ballet world in the West. How about that?
