The Royal Opera is to perform Les Troyens at the BBC Proms on 22 July 2012.
Antonio Pappano will conduct the company in the concert performance of Berlioz's epic opera for this one-off performance. Commenting on the production, which opens in a full staging at Covent Garden on 25 June, the Royal Opera Music Director said, "It's a war story, a love story, a guy on a mission … it's a brilliant story! It is something I really feel personally about: its electricity, its grandeur and the incredible variety of musical forms are mind-boggling!"
The performance stars Bryan Hymel and Eva-Maria Westbroek.
Other operatic offerings at this year's Proms include English National Opera's Peter Grimes (24 August, 7pm), Glyndebourne's The Marriage of Figaro (28 August, 6.30pm), and John Adams conducting the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Singers in a semi-staged performance of Nixon in China.
