The DVD release of Richard Jones’s Royal Opera production of Puccini’s Il trittico has been nominated for a prestigious BBC Music Magazine Award, to be decided by public vote.

The Olivier-nominated production, features a triptych of emotionally panoramic one act operas – Il tabarro, Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi. The trio were first performed together on the same bill at Covent Garden in September 2011.

Of the DVD release, BBC Music Magazine said:

‘We so rarely see Puccini’s whole triptych: here are all three operas in vivid and memorable productions by Richard Jones. Suor Angelica, the most challenging, is genuinely moving rather than sentimental with Ermonela Jaho powerful as Angelica; Il tabarro is a dramatic whirlwind with Eva-Maria Westbroek a convincing Giorgetta and Lucio Gallo blazing ferociously as Michele. He returns for a deliriously funny 1950s Gianni Schicchi.’

Those voting online before the closing date of 28 February 2013 will be entered into a draw to win prizes including a top of the range audio player and all of the nominated CDs and DVDs. Cast your vote online.

Richard Jones’s new production of Benjamin Britten’s Gloriana runs from 20 June – 6 July 2013. Tickets are now available.
