Richard Jones’s production of Il tabarro is to be broadcast on BBC Four tonight (Friday 15 June) at 8pm. The three operas that make up Il trittico are to be broadcast on consecutive Fridays, with Suor Angelica to be shown next week and Gianni Schicchi the week after.

The broadcast offers another chance to catch a Royal Philharmonic Society award-nominated performance from Eva-Maria Westbroek. The Dutch soprano sings the role of Giorgetta.

The luscious score was explored by our Music Director, Antonio Pappano, at an ROH Insights event last year. The evening saw Antonio showcasing extracts from the piece, as well as discussing Puccini’s composition. You can watch a clip from the session below or download it from  iTunes U.

In the run up to opening night, ROH News contributor Gavin Plumley wrote a series about Il trittico on his blog, Entartete Musik. Find out what influenced the piece.

And if you can’t wait until next Friday for another Il trittico fix, it’s just been released on DVD and is available from the Royal Opera House shop and online from Opus Arte.
