Ermonela Jaho replaced by Ailyn Pérez for La traviata on Friday 20 January
We’ve just learned that Ermonela Jaho has withdrawn from tomorrow night’s performance of La traviata as unfortunately she is unwell.
The role of Violetta will instead be sung tomorrow night by Ailyn Pérez, who performed as Verdi’s heroine earlier in the run. She previously appeared as Violetta on The Royal Opera’s tour of Japan in 2010 when Ermonela Jaho was taken ill during the show, delivering a performance acclaimed by The Guardian’s Nicholas Wroe as ‘a triumph’. Ailyn is married to tenor Stephen Costello who sings opposite her tomorrow night as Alfredo. This will mark the first time they have performed on-stage together at The Royal Opera House. The rest of the cast remain unchanged.
Watch an interview with Ailyn just before she appeared in the Royal Opera’s production of La traviata.

I have tickets for today, the 20th,i am pleased that i will get the chance to hear Ailyn again and see her as i heard the broadcast from the Opera House over the New Year and enioyed her performance so much. This is a stroke of luck as i will see her sing with her husband,Stephen Costello.
I wish them both all the best.
A welcome pairing of Costello and Perez. I still hope to hear Jaho and Grigolo on Monday though.
A husband and wife appearance before another more "in"famous one in June.
Now if if Netrebko could now step into Don Giovanni with her husband.......
Having seen several performances before and after Christmas, NOTHING could have made me happier than this news... sorry for Ermonela of course, who was very obviously coming down with a cold at her performance on Tuesday. Looking forward to this evening more than I can even describe!
I was so lucky to have been able to listen to both Costello`s and Perez`s beautiful voices. I thoroughly enjyoed their performance.
