Edward Watson and Monica Mason receive Olivier Awards
Ceremony held at Royal Opera House.
Royal Ballet Principal Edward Watson has won the Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dance for his role in Arthur Pita’s The Metamorphosis. Monica Mason, Director of The Royal Ballet, also received a special award for her distinguished career in dance.
In her acceptance speech Monica described the dancers and staff of the Royal Ballet as “committed, passionate and crazy”. Sadly, Edward Watson’s speech was interrupted by a break in broadcasting due to a power cut in Covent Garden. The Metamorphosis will be revived at the Royal Opera House in March of next year.
This year the Royal Opera House received five nominations for Olivier Awards, in addition to Monica Mason’s special award.

Congratulations for absolutely great achievement of Ed Watson's performing art as a world-levelled ballet-dancer! He fully does deserve this honour, and I am extremely happy about....
Loved the show, a truly enjoyable evening's viewing, wonderful that the whole ceremony was televised this year.
