Due to pregnancy Elīna Garanča withdraws from Carmen

Replacement casting for the role will be announced in due course.

Due to pregnancy, Latvian mezzo-soprano Elīna Garanča has withdrawn from the title role in The Royal Opera’s production of Carmen, which opens in December 2013. Replacement casting for the role will be announced in due course.

The rest of the cast remains the same, with Sicilian tenor Roberto Alagna as Don José, Italian baritone Vito Priante as Escamillo, Argentinian soprano Veronica Cangemi as Micaëla, Romanian soprano Simona Mihai as Frasquita, Russian mezzo-soprano and Jette Parker Young Artist Nadezhda Karyazina as Mercédès, British baritone Adrian Clarke as Le Dancaïre, British tenor Stuart Patterson as Le Remendado, French bass Nicolas Courjal as Zuniga, and British baritone and Jette Parker Young Artist Ashley Riches as Morales. Daniel Oren conducts all performances.
