Christopher Wheeldon receives OBE in New Year's Honours 2016

Other honourees from the world of dance include Matthew Bourne and Tamara Rojo.

The New Years Honours List 2016 has been announced, with a number of awards given to those from the dance world.

Royal Ballet Artistic Associate Christopher Wheeldon has received an OBE. The choreographer's recent works for the Company include Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and The Winter's Tale. The latter returns to the Royal Opera House in April 2016 following the world premiere of Wheeldon's new ballet, Strapless.

New Adventures founder Matthew Bourne has received a knighthood and former Royal Ballet Principal and current Director of English National Ballet Tamara Rojo receives a CBE, as does founder and Artistic Director of National Youth Ballet of Great Britain Jill Tookey. Head of the Royal Opera House's Costume Workrooms Mal Barton receives a MBE for services to the arts.

From the world of opera, Music Theatre Wales co-founders Michael McCarthy and Michael Rafferty have been awarded MBEs for services to music in Wales. Music Theatre Wales was the first Associate Company of The Royal Opera.
