From 2012/13, contemporary and cross-artform work previously programmed by ROH2 is to be assimilated into the new artistic management of The Royal Ballet and Royal Opera.
ROH2 has commissioned and staged productions since 2001, mostly in the Linbury Studio Theatre, Clore Studio and the Paul Hamlyn Hall but also in the regions, as well as being responsible for special projects such as the innovative, award-winning Deloitte Ignite festival, now in its fifth year, and being currently being curated by artist Yinka Shonibare.
Director of Opera Kasper Holten will lead the team responsible for commissioning and developing opera and music in the alternative spaces, working with John Fulljames, Associate Director of Opera, continuing many of the external collaborations that have developing over the years with ROH2 and evolving them further. More than 100 new opera projects have been created through the Opera Development programme led by John Lloyd Davies and The Royal Opera looks forward to working with him again in the future. Ballet and dance in the Linbury and other spaces will be overseen by the new Director of Ballet, Kevin O’Hare and his team.
The internal reorganization of the artistic management of the work does not in any way affect the Royal Opera House’s commitment to commissioning innovative and challenging new work and collaborating with other creative organizations.
