British mezzo-soprano Christine Rice has had to withdraw from the role of Clairon in The Royal Opera’s concert performances of Capriccio on the advice of her doctor.
The role of Clairon will now be sung by Swiss mezzo-soprano Tanja Ariane Baumgartner, who makes her Royal Opera debut.
Tanja’s recent roles have included Princess Eboli in Don Carlo, Fricka in Das Rheingold and Die Walküre, the Princess of Bouillon in Adriana Lecouvrer and Giulietta in Les Contes d’Hoffmann in Frankfurt. She has been a member of the Ensemble of Frankfurt Opera since 2009. Her other roles have included Charlotte in Die Soldaten and Countess Geschwitz in Lulu for the Salzburg Festival, the title role in Carmen in Basel and Nurse in Die Frau ohne Schatten for De Vlaamse Opera.
The rest of the cast remains the same.
