Madeleine Pierard is to sing the role of Musetta in tonight's performance of La bohème, replacing the indisposed Nuccia Focile.

The second year Jette Parker Young Artist sang the role for the performance on Saturday May 12 and will also appear in the pre-recorded final episode of BBC Two's Maestro at the Opera this week, singing in the performance conducted by the winner of the BBC competition.

This season has seen Madeleine sing the roles of Lisa in La sonnambula and as the Second Nymph in Rusalka for The Royal Opera as well as the soprano solo in The Royal Ballet's Requiem and Gloria. Her upcoming performances include the roles of Slave in Salome and Contessa di Folleville in Il viaggio a Reims, the Jette Parker Young Artists Tenth Anniversary Performance. She performs in concerts and recitals in the UK and New Zealand.

La bohème will be screened live on Thursday 17 April to locations around the UK and is the first of this year's BP Summer Big Screens.
