American tenor Charles Castronovo has withdrawn from the role of Roberto, Earl of Leicester, in Maria Stuarda. The role will now be sung by Spanish tenor Ismael Jordi, who makes his debut with The Royal Opera in the role of Roberto.

Jordi’s previous roles have included Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor in Amsterdam, Zürich and Dresden; Riccardo Percy in Anna Bolena in Frankfurt, Pylade in Iphigénie en Tauride in Valencia, Wilhelm Meister in Mignon in Paris, Carlo in Linda di Chamounix and Hoffmann in Les Contes d’Hoffmann in Barcelona, the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto in Bilbao, Seville, Verona and Hamburg; Lensky in Eugene Onegin in Bilbao and Alfredo in La traviata in Amsterdam.

The rest of the cast remains the same.

  1. Isamel Jordi, such a great tenor! I've known and followed him since his very debut in Jerez, around 15 years ago! TOI TOI TOI!

I saw him 10 years ago in Jerez in Elisir D'Amore and he was great. Since then I saw his very fine Duke in Macerata. Very pleased with this cast change, actually.
