Is this Cranko's "Shrew" and the Ratmansky reconstruction of "Corsaire"? (all 3-and-a-half hours of it, with its jardin so animé half the horticulture looked set to fall into the pit).

    • Chris Shipman (Head of Brand Engagement and Social Media) responded on 12 November 2015 at 10:43am

      Hi Stephen,

The Bolshoi will be performing Jean-Christophe Maillot's Taming of the Shrew and Alexei Ratmansky and Yuri Burlaka's adaptation of Le Corsaire.

      Thanks,

  2. Wonderful news! At last we will see the real Don Quixote again with all the glorious original choreography at its best! Can't wait to see them again. Really missed them this season.

Hurrah! What a treat. Can you imagine if they manage to persuade Sergei Polunin to come as a guest principal as well?

  3. so excited to see the Bolshoi so grateful they are coming to UK - every performance always outstanding.

After being devoid of any real ballet last summer, it is a relief to know that the Bolshoi is visiting next year for the season'''.

I would like to know if Evgenia Obraztsova will be at the Royal Ballet next year and also with the Bolshoi for the summer 2016 season too? Thankyou.

    • Chris Shipman (Head of Brand Engagement and Social Media) responded on 3 December 2015 at 10:09am

      Hi Terry,

There are no scheduled performances featuring Evgenia I'm afraid. In regards Bolshoi casting, this has not yet been confirmed in full.

Previous (and any future performances if confirmed) can be viewed on her 'people page' at http://www.roh.org.uk/people/evgenia-obraztsova

If I access the booking site on the day the tickets go on general sale will I stand a good chance of buying tickets? I can't afford to become a 'friend of ROH' and I know that they get advance tickets but I've already booked a hotel room in the hope that I can actually get tickets. Thanks, Elaine

    • Ellen West (Head of Creative Studios and Digital Products) responded on 3 January 2016 at 9:22pm

      Dear Elaine,

Priority booking for Friends of Covent Garden will open on 1 March 2016.

This is indeed correct - Friends of Covent Garden will be able to book from 1 March.

    Hi Chris

Could you please find out if the kids from The Royal Ballet School will also join the Bolshoi Ballet in the Le Corsaire performance? This ballet is a big production with kids in ACT 2's jardin anime. The 2013 Bolshoi Ballet ROH summer tour did not include the kids in the Waltz of the Garland of The Sleeping Beauty - abit appointed as it seemed something was missing.

    Leslie

    • ML responded on 1 March 2016 at 11:11pm

Usually it isn't the Royal Ballet School pupils who appear with the Bolshoi and the Mariinsky but children who study in several London ballet schools that have contacts with these 2 companies and can also work with their interpreter and ballet masters. The Royal Ballet Junior School pupils tend to perform only with the Royal Ballet.

    • ML responded on 1 March 2016 at 11:17pm

PS With regards the production decisions regarding the Bolshoi's current version of Corsaire, I cannot remember if they had child performers for Le Jardin Anime the last time they mounted it at Covent Garden - the stage was very crowded for that scene when they last took this production to Covent Garden on their second most recent tour, so Mr Burlaka/Mr Ratmansky might decide to cut some performers...or not. The Bolshoi website or Facebook page might be able to find out on your behalf. We also might not know the final decision till after they begin rehearsing.

Is the returns/resales policy any different for these Bolshoi dates?

    • Rose Slavin (Former Assistant Content Producer) responded on 7 March 2016 at 2:58pm

      Hi Louisa,
As the Bolshoi Ballet Season is bought to us by an outside producer (Victor Hochhauser presents), tickets can only be exchanged for other Bolshoi Ballet performances.
The resale policy remains the same.
Find out more about ticket resales.

      Hi Sapir,

Thanks for your question. We're waiting for the Bolshoi Ballet to send through that information.
As soon as we are told, we will announce full castings on the website.

      Many thanks,

  24. janet dann responded on 3 April 2016 at 7:55pm Reply

Re Bolshoi: I realise it is not in ROH's power to dictate when the Bolshoi releases casting details, but, in effect, friends of ROH have no priority booking for the Bolshoi - we have to book without knowing cast if we are to use our booking priority. I suggest that ROH delays general public booking for Bolshoi until a decent period after publication of castings, so that we friends of ROH can have some priority at least. We ARE, as ballet fans, very influenced in our choice by individual dancers. Every time a Russian company visits, I have to lose priority booking or change my tickets in order to see the dancers I want.

    • Chris responded on 5 April 2016 at 12:08pm

      I fully agree!

    • Leslie responded on 7 April 2016 at 5:13am

Hi Janet- by then you may not get the best seating. I called to book the other day without knowing the casting, there was not a alot of good selection of seats I was looking for.

    • Leslie responded on 7 April 2016 at 5:14am

hi Janet - but sometimes the cast changes due to injury. It happened a few times during their 2013 ROH performance

  25. Chris responded on 5 April 2016 at 12:12pm Reply

and will the casting even be released before the general public booking opens??

  26. Susan Armstrong responded on 5 April 2016 at 2:58pm Reply

Are we any closer to hearing the cast details? Its making it difficult to choose nights for tickets to see preferred dancer. Obviously all will be fabulous but if you're trying to see a particular favourite its difficult.

    • Rose Slavin (Former Assistant Content Producer) responded on 7 April 2016 at 11:34am

      Hi Susan,

I am sorry, there is still no casting update from the Bolshoi Ballet.
As soon as we are informed of details, we will make the announcements.
      All best wishes,
      Rose

  28. Ximeng Hu responded on 6 April 2016 at 5:08pm Reply

Hi! I am writing to ask if we can know the cast information before the general booking opens next week? Thanks!

    • Rose Slavin (Former Assistant Content Producer) responded on 7 April 2016 at 11:25am

      Hi Ximeng,

Unfortunately we don't have that information yet and it seems unlikely we'll have it before booking opens.
As soon as we receive it, we will publish it.

      Best wishes,
      Rose

  29. Leslie responded on 7 April 2016 at 5:07am Reply

hi ML - you are correct. Now I recall that there was no children during 2010 Bolshoi's La Corsaire at ROH. I do agree that ROH stage is rather small for ACT 2's jardin anime

  30. Chris responded on 13 April 2016 at 10:26am Reply

well, at least this time Osipova pulled out before the casting was confirmed

  31. Sandie Lush responded on 13 April 2016 at 4:14pm Reply

Diappointed that, despite the promotional material on your website, neither Osipova nor Hallberg are listed in the casting.

  32. Nick B responded on 13 April 2016 at 5:28pm Reply

I understand from the Bolshoi website that Le Corsaire lasts 3.5 hours. Can't wait!

But as some of us are travelling some distance by train to see the performance, would it be possible to start the ballet at 7pm to allow time to board a return train that evening?

    • Rose Slavin (Former Assistant Content Producer) responded on 14 April 2016 at 12:04pm

      Hi Nick,

I'm very sorry but we are unable to change the time of the performance.
I do hope you enjoy your evening at the ROH though.
      All best wishes,
      Rose

  33. Steve Clark responded on 14 April 2016 at 9:28am Reply

Is there any statement from the Bolshoi as to why Natalia Osipova is not appearing as billed? I appreciate that this is not within the control of the ROH but it seems rather unprofessional of the Bolshoi, particularly as casting was not even announced prior to booking opening.

    • Rose Slavin (Former Assistant Content Producer) responded on 14 April 2016 at 12:18pm

      Hi Steve,

Thanks for your comment. Unfortunately, I don't have any further information to provide you. The Bolshoi Ballet haven’t given us an update on casting particulars.
      All best wishes,
      Rose

    • Rachel Fairhurst responded on 30 April 2016 at 7:33pm

I am also very disappointed, even if there are no details why, I think there should have been a casting announcement. My booking was with the ROH, not the Bolshoi

  34. I just heard and read your post on the Bolshoi Ballet at Covent Garden this sum,mer 2016. Ijust read the list of dancers performing tere this summer with the Bolshoi and noticed that Evgenia Obrqaztsova is not on the list. This is very sad and disapoiinting even though I live in the US and am huge fan of Evgania iobraztsova. Could you please tell me what is happening with Evgenia obraztsova. She is only performing in Russia for one night on Octobr 21rst in Samara, Russia. I sincerely hope you can find out why she is not performing on stage anymore. Thankyou very much if you can answer my question.
