Rupert Pennefather has been dancing with The Royal Ballet since 1999, after completing his training with The Royal Ballet School. In 2006 he was promoted to First Soloist, and in 2008 became a Principal. Not surprisingly, many of ballet’s leading male roles are in his repertory, including a virtual royal flush of princes – The Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, Mayerling, Cinderella – as well as Albrecht in Giselle, Aminta in Sylvia and MacMillan’s Romeo. The dancers he has partnered include Sylvie Guillem (Paris to her Juliet), Alina Cojocaru and Marianela Nuñez, and more recently his stage rapport with Lauren Cuthbertson – a very British pairing – has been especially admired.
