Introduction
This one-act opera, an adaptation of a short story by Thomas Hardy, explores the power of the imagination and the boundaries between reality and fantasy.
Background
Huw Watkins is admired across the UK for his work as a composer and pianist, and has an impressive body of orchestra, chamber and vocal works. For In the Locked Room, he teams up with former collaborator, poet David Harsent. David’s work in music theatre includes his libretto for Harrison Birtwistle’s The Minotaur. David and Huw first worked together in 2009, producing the opera Crime Fiction.
