FUSED: Songs of Life and Death: Saturday 5 July 2014, 2.30pm at Backstage Centre

An annual festival of creative performances and activities by the Royal Opera House. Events take place in Thurrock, Essex.

Backstage Centre

High House Production Park, Vellacott Close, Purfleet, Essex, RM19 1RJ

Inspired by the themes of Verdi's Requiem, this exciting workshop will draw on a range of vocal music from across the world. It will be led by the curators of this year's FUSED: Jeremy Haneman, Director of the Royal Opera House Community Chorus, and Jacek Ludwig Scarso, voice practitioner and Director of Elastic Theatre. Merging their individual specialisms, the workshop will begin with a playful series of voice exercises and singing games from different music styles. These will be followed by a special selection of songs from different cultural traditions: songs that, in their unique ways, just like the Requiem, celebrate life and meditate upon its loss and the fragility of human existence.

This is an open level workshop with a limited number of places, so booking is essential.
