Kasper Holten

Director of Opera, The Royal Opera House

Kasper Holten was born in Copenhagen in 1973. From 2000-2011 he was artistic director of the Royal Danish Opera and headed the opening of the new opera house in Copenhagen in 2005. He has directed more than 60 productions of opera, drama, operetta and musicals in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Latvia, Iceland, France, Austria, USA and Russia. His productions of Wagner’s “Ring” and “Tannhäuser” in Copenhagen received international acclaim and are available on dvd (Decca). Other important productions have been a number of world premieres and Richard Strauss’ “Die Frau ohne Schatten” in Copenhagen in 2011. His debut as director of a feature film was “Juan” in 2010, a modern cinematic interpretation of Mozart’s “Don Giovanni”, which has been invited to film festivals all over the world.From the autumn of 2011 he took up the role of Director of Opera at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and he is scheduled to direct productions in UK, Germany, Denmark, Austria and Norway.
