ROH Connections

ROH Connections will build on the relationships we already hold with performing arts organizations, allowing us to work with Arts Council National portfolio organizations to build their sustainability and impact by sharing our expertise in a variety of disciplines. It follows a history of the Royal Opera House sharing skills and best practice with other organizations through our Associate programmes, and through participation in industry bodies and arts consortia.

ROH Connections consists of two main elements:

ROH Links

We will connect with up to three small and medium-sized opera, orchestra, dance and/or ballet organizations per year, offering expertise within the Royal Opera House over a one- or two-year period. This expertise could be based around either arts management and/or technical areas, and will allow us to share more widely and formally the skills of our people so that we as an organization can effect positive change.

As 2012 is a pilot year for ROH Connections, Arts Council England will recommend National portfolio organizations who strongly meet the conditions for this scheme. National portfolio organizations who are interested should register their interest with their Relationship Manager. Final decisions will be made by a panel of people from the Royal Opera House and Arts Council England.

ROH Board Bank

The Board Bank is a database of Royal Opera House staff, from all departments and levels across the organization, who have expressed willingness to act as a Board member, or a member of an advisory committee, for an arts or heritage organization.

This scheme is open to all arts organizations who are looking to grow the expertise of their Board, and who might value the input of a Royal Opera House member of staff.

FAQs

Why is the Royal Opera House offering ROH Connections?

The Royal Opera House is a resource for the nation. Our knowledge and experience is already widely shared; advising and supporting emerging organizations such as Ballet Black, and playing a leading role in initiatives such as the establishment of a National Skills Academy for Creative and Cultural Skills. We now want to offer an expanded programme of support to the sector, sharing more widely the skills of our people so that we as an organization can effect positive change.

Who can apply?

  • ROH Links is open to Arts Council England’s National portfolio organizations. Contact your Relationship Manager for advice on the application criteria.
  • ROH Board Bank is open to any arts or heritage organization. You can contact the Royal Opera House directly if you would like further information or if you would like to apply.

Will the Royal Opera House be able to deliver the changes as well as share experience?

This programme is about sharing best practice and experiences – participating organizations need to have sufficient administrative capacity to incorporate changes themselves, and won’t be able to rely on the Royal Opera House to fill gaps in staffing or implement any recommendations. We will take advice from your Relationship Manager as to whether you have the capacity to implement any change programme which comes out of your partnership with the Royal Opera House.
