Design schedule

Stanton Williams have designed a series of spaces that can be inhabited and curated by the Royal Opera House and aim to bring a sense of the magic that is created each night on stage to the public areas of the building.

What will you see:

  • New entrances on both Bow Street and Covent Garden Piazza to make the building more inviting for visitors, with step-free access.
  • A glazed extension onto Bow Street to let in light and allow passers-by to see into the ground floor and Linbury Theatre foyer areas, encouraging them to enter.
  • An external terrace at the Paul Hamlyn Hall level, making more of a presence on Bow Street and a place where audiences and public can spill out.
  • An expanded ground-floor area with 50% more foyer space, reconfigured to accommodate the box office, cloakroom facilities and seating areas for visitors.
  • A new ground-floor bar where people can meet for coffee during the day or a drink before the performance.
  • A more visible retail space in the opened up area near the Covent Garden Piazza entrance.
  • Better visual connection between the different foyer levels with a new set of stairs directly from the piazza entrance to the Paul Hamlyn Hall.
  • A redesigned Linbury Theatre with world-class facilities, and a flexible foyer space with improved bar and catering offerings.
  • At Amphitheatre level, a refurbished bar and restaurant provision.
  • The Clore Studio refurbished with new seating, dance floor, improved broadcasting capabilities, and air cooling system.
