Deloitte Ignite 2012 was curated by critically acclaimed artist, Yinka Shonibare, MBE, most recently famed for his Nelson’s Ship in a Bottle for the Trafalgar Square Fourth Plinth. In this talk, he discussed his work in detail with the art historian Gus Casely-Hayford. Yinka also reflected on how his art has shaped his vision for Deloitte Ignite 2012, Africa Weekend – a celebration of traditional African and avant-garde arts and culture, expressing Africa’s global contribution to the contemporary arts world.

Tony Allen and Niaja Centric Orchestra

Legendary drummer, composer and song writer Tony Allen and the Niaja Centric Orchestra brought the rousing sounds of Afrobeat to the Linbury Studio Theatre in an exclusive world premiere. Alongside Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, Tony Allen pioneered Afrobeat – a distinctive blend of traditional Nigerian music, jazz and funk, which has influenced musicians round the world. The Niaja Centric Orchestra, which brings together traditional and contemporary Nigerian artists, were joined by special guests Damon Albarn and Martina Topley Bird.
